Christ is Risen! Alleluia!

A few days after the Resurrection, Jesus meets two disciples on their way to Emmaus. He eats with them and they finally say to each other, “Did not our hearts burn within us when he spoke to us on the way, when he opened the Scriptures to us?”  Eventually they realize who was with them. Jesus leaves them physically, but His community – all of us – remains. We have the gift of Jesus’ words in Scripture and sacraments. All of these gifts are our memory now and the indestructible hope of life for all creation forever.

The call to discipleship is now ours. Let us continue on the road of freedom and new life. “Out of darkness the light of Christ will shine, as the dawn of day breaks through the night. Then the poor will cry out and be heard by the light that rises from the night.”
