Loretto legacy remains vibrant: Historic Loretto Heights building secures major EPA grant for community center transformation

Loretto is proud to celebrate the EPA awarding a grant of more than $20 million to COMMÚN in support of the work to save and re-develop Machebeuf Hall, part of the historic Loretto Heights campus. COMMÚN, directed by Margaret Brugger, is a community-led organization created to “build community resilience through relationships and programs that center community voice, cultivate a sense of belonging, and realize equity.” They have been working for years on the effort to turn Machebeuf Hall into a community center.
Sponsored in part by the Spirit of Loretto Committee (Loretto Heights College alumni), COMMÚN also received funds from the Loretto Community, which gave them a boost to apply for grants for their plans for Machebeuf. With this latest federal grant, COMMÚN is well on its way to realizing that goal.
