Loretto Motherhouse Farm officially a Kentucky Heritage Farm

Posted on July 24, 2024, by Loretto Community

The Loretto Motherhouse Farm is now a Kentucky Heritage Farm!

In 1982, the Kentucky Legislature passed a law to register farms over 100 years of age which have stayed in the same family or organization. The registry is cared for by the Kentucky Heritage Council.

Anthony Mary Sartorius SL was an early proponent of including Loretto’s farm in the registry. In 2024, Liz Perez SL suggested it again and the paperwork was completed in time to celebrate Loretto’s 200th anniversary on what was formerly St. Stephen’s farm property. The Loretto Community is grateful to be caretakers of this sacred ground for over two centuries.

We wanted to thank you for submitting the Heritage Farm application which allowed us the opportunity to come visit the farm. … Of all the applications I’ve processed, this was my favorite Heritage Farm experience and the most perfect way to cap off my time at the Heritage Council. Thank you, Sisters and the Team at Loretto Motherhouse for your hospitality. A great group of people you have there.
