Loretto Volunteer Program Welcomes 2020/2021 Volunteers!
Posted on August 11, 2020, by Loretto Community
Loretto Volunteers are an extension of the mission and spirit of the Loretto Community. Our Volunteers’ experience is rooted in the creative spirituality of the Loretto Community, centering on earth care, activism and justice work as deeply spiritual pursuits. Volunteers serve for a year at social justice organizations while living in intentional community with other volunteers. All the while, Volunteers find ways to connect to their spirituality, work for justice, cultivate community and practice a way of life rooted in solidarity and sustainability.
Our 2020/2021 Loretto Volunteers will be based in El Paso, Texas, and Denver. They will serve in both direct service and advocacy roles. They serve in homeless shelters and immigrant legal clinics, in schools and food pantries. Each Volunteer is paired with an organization based on their skills and interests.
Our new Loretto Volunteer cohort is embarking on their year of service in a time of challenge. COVID-19 is creating new challenges for intentional community, direct service and relationship-building. The call to anti-racism work is challenging all of us, including our new Volunteers, to engage more deeply in what it means to work for justice and act for peace both within ourselves and within our world. This time of challenge can beget growth, innovation and deeper expressions of our Loretto values both now and into the future. Our 2020/2021 Loretto Volunteer Program is looking to this year and beyond with an energy of openness to challenge and hope for transformation.
