‘Pray for a woman facing execution, and for her victim killed in 2004’

Editor’s Note: It is with sadness that Loretto reports, according to the Associated Press, that Lisa Montgomery, 52, was executed by lethal injection at the U.S. Penitentiary in Terre Haute, Ind. Her time of death was 1:31 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, seven and half hours after her originally scheduled time of execution. Please keep all in your prayers.
A federal appeals court had delayed the execution of Montgomery, who had been scheduled to be executed Jan. 12. “We don’t have the right to execute anyone, but we have the extra obligation to care for persons like Lisa with mental illness,” writes Mary Ann McGivern SL in her column about Lisa just published in “National Catholic Reporter’s Global Sisters Report.” Read Mary Ann’s thought-provoking piece in full at Pray for a woman facing execution, and for her victim killed in 2004 | Global Sisters
