The Rev. Marty Lally CoL

A native of Denver, I am a second-generation graduate of Holy Family High School, originally staffed by the Sisters of Loretto. My family and I have known Loretto for many years through the parish and the school. After graduating from high school, I was discerning entering the seminary to study for priesthood, but I received a very wise insight from the then principal, Sister Aline Dalton. Following her advice I studied at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley for two years, then worked for two years in banking. Following the work experience I entered the seminary to study for the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Denver. I was ordained a priest in 1978.

My ministry has been in parishes, serving as assistant pastor and pastor in seven parish communities. I loved parish life and the opportunity to meet so many wonderful, faithful and faith-filled people who inspired me to know how wonderfully God works in the human community. I have worked and ministered with various Loretto members in these communities over the years. I retired from full-time parish ministry in 2021.

Loretto has taught me the value of “working for justice and acting for peace because the Gospel urges us.” I became a Loretto Co-member in 1981. I am profoundly grateful for my life in ministry and for the Loretto values and inspiration I have received from the Loretto Community.

Co-membership has given me an opportunity to serve on the Ghana Sister Community and the Co-Membership Team. I also have had the opportunity of helping to facilitate Community retreats with Mary Kenneth Lewis SL and Mary Ellen McElroy SL. I am extremely honored to be elected to serve on the Community Forum.
